I just bought and installed a new vinyl floor that I bought at Lowes
When I purchased it ahead of time they wrote my name on it. I figured it was wax crayon like they usually use, but I have tried "Goof Off" which usually takes anything off and it didn't touch it. HELP!!!! What can I use without damaging new flooring?

did they write on the back or the front. If they wrote on the reverse side and its discoloured through there is nothing can be done to remove the discolouration. If on the front try writing over the top with a 'dry wipe' marker pen and then rubbing off. It will take about 1 or 2 goes. Sounds crazy but normally works.

If all else fails use section 14 of the ammended sale of goods act 1979. fit for the purpose sold and of merchantable quality, in marking it the made it unsaleable and have your money back.

Lighter fluid will usually work. I've heard that WD40 may also work. I have used hair spray to take marker out of my shirts. Another product would be a hand cleaner from an auto parts store, as I've used that sucessfully on shirts. I would be very hesitant to try nail polish remover, as the actone that is the solvent in it may damage the finish on your floor. All of this assumes that the marker is on the top of the floor. If it was written on the back, and has now bled through the floor, I would say that Lowe's owes you a new floor, because that will never come out. Lowe's should also be able to tell you how to clean it, and should have given you a warranty/maintenance brochure, that would have a phone # to call the manufacturer at. Or go to the manufacturer's website (possibly getting there following a link from Lowe's website). You didn't specify what kind of vinyl floor you bought, so I'm guessing since you bought it at Lowe's you likely have an Armstrong vinyl floor. If so, try this: http://www.armstrong.com/resflram/na/home/en/us/floor_care.html

I've been able to get sharpie markers off of some various materials by using sunscreen (apply a little) and rubbing it really hard (with a rag or paper towel). Try it, it has worked for me in my preschool classroom many times! Good luck!

Sorry you have this problem but I found something that works to remove lots of unwanted stains. It's your liquid dishwasher soap that you use in the dishwasher. My kitchen counter was wet and I laid a plastic breadwrapper down and when I came back and picked it up there was this label decorating the counter....I didn't know what to do about it. The dishwasher soap was there so I grabbed it and used it full strength and it took it off ....no problem since getting rid of those inky stains....hope this helps you too....hugs from Mama Jazzy Geri across the miles in cyberspace

How about going back to Lowes and ask them to replace the floor. They marked it! You are working hard to fix THEIR problem. Take a photo with you. What they did was very unprofessional.

WD-40 should get it off and not damage the vinyl at all.

Good luck
