We've never had to change our clocks before. I just wondered what sparked the change?

You were in the minority and they "the government" forced you to conform with the majority. Seriously. When push comes to shove that's exactly what happended. Kinda sucks. Anyway, the part of Indiana that did always change its clocks did so to keep in sync with Ohio and Kentucky. (I live in Ohio). So businesses along the boarders would always be on the same page.

I don't really get the reason for the change or why they call it saving time. It's dark when I get up so I turn on all the lights. It's dark when I get home from work so I turn on all the lights. Where is the saving coming in?

Yes, I know it was originally for the farmers but farmers drive equipment with headlights now. That's a moot point.

I can't say for sure as I am not American at all, but I do live in a state of Australia which starts daylight savings a month ahead of other states...then there is Queensland which doesn't have daylight savings at all.

For businesses and travellers alike, having different states operating under completely different systems creates bedlam in so many different ways. From travellers having to make constant adjustments which would otherwise be unnecessary; business confusions in regards to scheduling adjustments; TV & national radio broadcasting all over the place; even the process of contacting loved ones interstate becomes a matter of second-checking. I personally can't wait till next year when all the involved states start changing their clocks at the same time.

Now I realise that it might take a little adjustment for you guys if this is your first time around, but just for one moment consider how much easier life will be for those that you will now be in sync with.....just a thought

Blame the Feds. They changed the rules for DST across the nation, and Indiana didn't have a state wide rule on it. Indiana allowed different sections of the state to make the decision. Some parts of Indiana switched....others didn't. So, you all got nailed on it...or you'd be two hours behind in your own state.

Arizona, having a state wide, no DST, does not have to switch their clocks.

Have fun...I hate switching the time.

I don't know but it has been going on in N.C. for quiet a while now! I still don't like it. Springing forward or falling back!
