All depends on what you consider junk food. I would have to admit that in America we probably consume the most junk food and everything else. Since you are wondering if it was invented here It probably was since I think here in america is where they started processing food as in processed stuff like TV dinners and alot of other fake stuff that one can cook and serve in seconds. for those who are always on the run. but I am really not sure about all that . I am just guessing so dont quote me on that.

Junk food was invented in some form from each nation in the world and is a common term used for any food item that is perceived to be unhealthy or to have poor nutritional value. The term "Junk Food" was coined by Michael Jacobson, director of the Center for Science in the Public Interest (a US Not-for-profit organization), in 1972.

People didn't eat this food as often, and the portions were small. A bottle of Coke, for example, was very tiny -- and there were no litre bottles. When I was a child in the 60's and early 70's, going to a fast-food place was a very occasional treat, a special event. There were fewer convenience foods, and people did not have microwave ovens. Fewer women worked outside of the home anyway, so they made their own meals for their families, they didn't order pizza once or twice a week. (We were lucky if we got it once a month.) You got cotton candy at a fair or carnival when it came to your location, about once a year. Even the popcorn served at films came in reasonably-sized containers. And many locales didn't have much in the way of fast-food restaurants or doughnut shops that were easily accessible to young people without cars. The first fast food restaurant in my area that I could have reached (if I'd been old enough for my parents to allow me to walk to it) was built in 1968. There was a Baskin-Robbins ice cream shop, but again, I wasn't allowed to walk to it. There was nothing in the vicinity of my surburban school, because the suburb wasn't fully developed yet. You ate what the school cafeteria served, and there were no choices, no vending machines. The portions were moderate. You could bring a lunch from home, but without large numbers of convenience/snack foods, a packed lunch was likely to involve a sandwich, a piece of fruit, a little (and I do mean little) bag of fritos or chips, and maybe a cookie or two. Children certainly got more exercise. We did not have computers, video games, or DVD players. We were outside all the time, running around the neighborhood and riding bikes; in the summer we were at the local pool almost every day. We had regular PE classes at school. And up to the 50's and 60's, adults got more exercise, too, because cars weren't as common as they are now, and many jobs in the 19th and early 20th century involved much physical labor. Even looking after a house was a physical chore without washing machines and other modern appliances. So, we just didn't have that many opportunities to develop weight problems.
