have you ever heard of rice wine?
i was just wondering how the rice can ferment.
fermentation converts a sugar into an alcohol.. or an acid..
is there a natural sugar present in rice?
or is it the starch in the rice that gets fermented.

Yes Rice Wine does exist and it's called Sake in China since rice has starch and starch is a carbohydrate which in turn is sugar mainly in simple form with small molecules as well as macromolecular substances the calssification is done with the number of monosaccharide groups the carbohydrate contains.

So as u say fermentation converts sugar into alcohol or acid which is very true thus Rice can be fermented and the byproducts are rice wine, rice vinegar... and China is the hot spot for many varieties of rice fermented products.
