As I understand it what they are going to do is remove or reduce the amount of marks you get in an exam based on the course work. The reason being that it is difficult to prevent people getting a lot of help with that work. In my day course work was never used for exam marks and I am not sure why they started to do so but I loved doing exams and hated course work so that was okay for me.

Unfortunately, just because you do not cheat does not mean that others do not.
Just because you would not dream of breaking into a house and stealing the television does not mean that everyone else thinks the same way. They have a TV that they have not paid for. It is the same as someone cheating on their coursework. Unfortunately, with coursework there is no way of proving that you did not cheat. I help my children with their homework - that is not breaking any laws. But some parents do their coursework for their children. How do you prove this? After all, the parents will say the children did it all themselves! And where do you draw the line? My son will ask me to research something with him - for example, last year he did a project on David Livingstone, which we did together. He then put together the project, deciding what was relevant and should be included, sorting out the pictures, rewording the whole thing and so on. He got an A, the second highest grade. However, the girl in his class who had the best grade got her father to do the whole thing. She got an A* and a prize. When my son complained, he was asked what proof he had. The fact that the girl told my son did not count (she would not admit it to the teacher, after all!).
If you cheat on GCSE coursework, your grades are improved so your prospects in the future are better. Coursework is one of those things that are good in practice but unable to be controlled in reality.
My son totally agrees with you but is very fed up with those who cheat!!!! However, he agrees with me that if you do the work yourself you will remember it better, so will do better in exams. So you are in a win-win situation!!!

yes it's true.
check out www.bbc.co.uk then click on news, then education.
It has info on all of this. I agree with you - I would never cheat in coursework, but so many people do and it's not fair that they get grades that they are not really capable of achieving for themselves. They have already decide maths coursework is going, and that will start from either next year or the year after that, but they are in agreement that some coursework has to sat for instance in art, but they are trying to come up with an alternative way to test pupils other than the current system.

Sadly you are right. Cheating has got to such an extent that it has become a major headache, even at university level. I doubt if they will scrap all coursework, but it will have to be done where there is supervision i.e. at school/college.
I agree memory only exams suck. When I was at school, they were all like that, so woe betide you if you weren't feeling too good on the day.
So give a big hand all those people who come on this site asking for their homework to be done because they were too lazy to think for themselves, or who just copy and paste other people's work. You guys spoilt it for everyone.

as far as i became conscious the coursework is being scrapped all at the same time so all checks. As on your the girl dishonest would annomously tell the college as it really is dishonest. It quite unfair considering that your daughter has to do the exertions.

Yes coursework is generally going to be taken away. However there are many other dourses (modular) courses that are going to be introduced. This means less pressure throughout.

that's what they do in scotland and it works for us
we send off english and french (done under exam conditions) essays to the exam board, and english and french talk grades are done internally but nearly everything else is marked on the day
look at it this way: less homework!
