I donated stuff to Goodwill recently.
I looked around inside and it wasn't bad at all.
I wouldn't get undies and stuff.
But they have brand name clothes in there.
I got a button down top from GAP- $2. looks brand new.
So what's wrong with that?

Absolutely nothing. It just doesn't go along with the American idea of flashy consumerism to shop at a Goodwill -- even though THE BEST shirts can be found there.

Oh some people think if you shop there that means you can't afford to shop at the mall or swankier places. It's actually silly to think that way though. I love Goodwill. I don't buy ALL my clothes there but I look for funky original items there. I also go there for Halloween costumes (you can piece together really original costumes) and clothes for my kids. I only buy kids clothes that are barely worn. There are 8 Goodwills in my area and they're not all the same. There is one in a ritzy part of town that I have found especially great pieces in. It seems that rich people give away some good stuff.

Lastly, I would never buy anything upholstered, pillows or mattresses there. I always wash any clothes I buy in HOT water or if it's not washable, tie it up in a plastic bag and leave it in my freezer for a few days. I'm phobic about lice.

there are thrift store shoppers and there are those people who wretch at the thought of second hand. But there are lots of good reasons to buy there. You are recycling instead of buying new and then throwing the stuff into landfills. Some of the stores are run by charities, so you are helping there. (somethimes not that much, but still something goes to the charity). A lot of times, what you want and need is not in style at that moment. So, you can find it at those places. And it's a really great place to get classic, never goes out of style clothing. If you are a 'clothing reborner'; someone who will buy something and redo it so it is unique and only yours, that is a terrific source. Label people can find great buys there; sometimes designer stuff for way cheap. If you are a small size, it is a treasure trove of goodies. People usually grow out of clothing, not shrink. So they give away stuff then never even took tags off in some cases. If you are looking for very unique, only you have them, clothes, these are perfect for that. And they have little try on rooms with mirrors so you don't have stuff that doesn't fit right, or doesn't work for you.
The only thing you have to watch is electronics. There usually is a reason some stuff is thrown there. Some stuff is just house clutter and fine. But test it all with the plug they provide. If it smokes, buzzes, doesn't heat, heats, whatever it shouldn't do, don't buy that stuff. And carry a lightbulb in your purse if you want to check a lamp out. They never give you those. Take a tape measure to make sure of lengths, widths, on clothing. And check labels for care instructions.
Number one thrift store rule: if it's wrinkled there, unless you want to be ironing it for always and a day, don't buy it.

Thrift stores are wonderful! I've been able to afford brand name and even designer fashions that I never could have afforded on what I earn. They are also a great resource if you are into collecting antiques or retro items for decorating.
Don't listen to people who look down their noses at thrift stores. They're just ignorant and don't know any better. As long as you have the clothes you buy washed or dry cleaned before use, you've nothing to worry about! Have a ball finding bargains. I certainly do. And I laugh at those who are too stupid to take advantage of this great resource. The money you save can be spent on other great stuff or put in the bank!

Absolutely nothing.

But there are some sections of modern day society that equates the wearing of second-hand clothing with poverty. Now whereas that was the case in the 1930s to the 1950s, we have moved on.

Whereas I would not buy second-hand underwear, I have brought other items. Indeed, only recently I eventually threw out a pair of shoes that I had purchased from one such shop. They were one of the most comfortable pairs that I have ever owned.

(smiles) i've got been ordinary to drop off clothing and different products, then bypass interior the keep and purchase extra effective than what I donated!! i admire thrift shops, and with me having 2 starting to be infants, that's smart for me to do my procuring there and at storage sales;no longer something suits for long on my young ones at this element, and while they outgrow it, I donate it. I actual have offered fixtures at as low as 1 / 4 of the fee of latest, and that i carry mutually espresso cups and magnets, and you are able to detect a special demonstrate of the two. two times a year I "sparkling homestead" and loads of thrift shops are great sufficient (while you're giving a huge sufficient donation) to deliver out a truck to %. it up. Halloween costumes, arts and crafts, and consistent with hazard that categorical form of slotted spoon you have been searching for are all waiting for you.

It is the idea that it is "used" and that you don't know who wore the clothing before. I personally once bought an amazing pin striped suit for a Bonnie and Clyde Halloween costume at a salvation army. I remember I went with my mother, who was completely grossed out by the whole idea of me wearing used clothing. It didn't affect me, but I did have it dry cleaned.

Nothing is wrong with buying tops and shirts from thrift stores. I personally think that they are better because I recently bought a jacket from there that looked exactly the same as my bffl's but it was warmer. Hers was a name brand and mine "725 Originals".
