Currently it's trapped in our closet with some d-con (rat poison) but I can hear it scratching or biting away at something. If it gets house will it bite us in our sleep?? Our beds are on the floor.

You won't keep it trapped in a closet for long because it will chew it's way out. Besides you don't want it in there once it has eaten d-con. I'd get several glue traps and set them around close to the walls as well as using the d-con. See if you can find where it got in and hope there is only one. Block any entrance you find with plaster or cement. In desperation stuff with steel wool. They won't chew through that because it cuts their mouth. According to the pest control agency I've talked with, yes they will bite. Good Luck

not trying to spook you, but we used to live near a canal and a field rat got in the house while husband was doing some bathroom repair. Not only did I get bit, but at the time my daughter was about 1 1/2, and she got bit on the heal of her foot. My suggestion is to get some glue traps, and try to slip it into the closet, gross but beats having a rat in the house. It's baited with a scent the rat will go to and get stuck on it..I don't like those snap the neck traps. (someone could say that is more humane, it's a Rat!) You said apartment, you could also call your landlord and tell them about it and see if the will send an exterminator out.

I have mice in my house. The d-con is a good idea, but...it could get out and bite you. It will probally bite off your hair to make a nest. That happened to my cousin and we thought he was cutting it off with sizzors. Then we saw under his bed and it made a nest made out of his hair and halloween candy. (this happened last year) so i think if you can maybe buy a trap and try to put it inside the closet.

Rats will bite if cornered or stressed. I suggest you get the pad with glue on it and place them in dark passage way - sprinkle food around and on it.

Rats are looking for food and it is highly unlikely that it will bite you.
