My 13 year old son has suddenly lost all interest in reading. He is a gifted student who has always enjoyed reading until this year. He recently read the Hunckback of Notre Dame and did not enjoy it. His teacher has suggested The Boys from Brazil and 1984. He enjoys science and learning about the Hollocaust.Any other suggestions for books a young man his age may find interesting?

I too have a 13 year old and have the opposite but same problem. He LOVED to read but it's hard to find appropriate things. Any of the Dan Brown books may interest him especially Digital Frotress and Deception Point , lots of science in both. John Grisham books deal with law and are mysteries.
Gary Paulson books are all boy oriented and deal with outdoors and nature. Avi and Sharon Creech are 2 authors used at the school in which I teach. Check out your local library and ask your librarian for help! They are experts at finding books for young people AND they can usually access any library with 300 to 500 miles by interlibrary loan.
Good luck!

Try books that have an adventure theme , mystery , or even scary books. When I was that age some of the boys in my school would read Steven King books but that may be too adult.

If he likes science and learning about the Hollocaust you could try books relative to that. Also, does he like to write? You could encourage him to write his own stories since reading and writing go hand in hand.

i'm a high school student and i used to read classics when i was in middle school you can persuade your son to read the book dracula or 20000 leagues under the sea hiedi king arthur. let him read the teenage versions of these novels or he'll become bored by the adult version of theirs. also you can buy him the harry potter series and take a subscription of a kids magazine and comics too
