if so then what seems to be the major point the author wants you to remember?

Yes, I've read the book. The 'major point' is that young kids were more than 'strongly' encouraged to participate in the Nazi group Hitler Youth. Some were brainwashed and went voluntarily, others were forced and went quietly to protect themselves and their families. Others refused despite the fact that they were risking their lives and their families. The book talked about what the activities were. Some duties were okay, some were AWFUL and it's no surprise that someone had to be forced into those roles.
