This is a famous question for detectives. When the suspect uses a slang expression, the officer must clarify what is meant. Once this is done, both can continue to use the expression as both now agree on what is meant. Otherwise, both could have a different interpretation of the slang word. A prime example in London slang is 'There is a lot of hot tom in his house'. One meaning could be that the house is a brothel, a 'tom' is slang for a prostitute. However, 'hot' can mean stolen and 'tom' within the context means 'jewellery' - tomfoolery....................
Within the interview process, the problems could mean the same. Slang also shows a lack of understand of the English language.............

Webster-Merriam defines slang as: : language peculiar to a particular group: as a : ARGOT b : JARGON 2
2 : an informal nonstandard vocabulary composed typically of coinages, arbitrarily changed words, and extravagant, forced, or facetious figures of speech
Slang is basically, words that describe common words and are used only in a select social setting.
For example if I was to talk to some of my friends and say, "that party was off the hook". They might know what I'm talking about, but maybe other people wouldn't.
This is exactly why slang is not suggested for interviews because your interviewer may not understand what you ware intending to say. Also, it shows a lack of ability/restraint to speak without slang, since it is expected that you will not use slang.

Slang is using expressions that are sometimes crude, as in "Gotta take a piss," instead of saying politely, "I have to use the restroom." Slang is everyday talk you use around family and friends but not at a job interview. Job interviews are formal and everyone is on their best behaviour and all dressed up, like you are going to church. Good Luck!
