i think your rtefering to transsexuals, here in the USA if someone is trying to transition into the gender they feel they should be then when in public they use the facilities for the gender they are transitioning into. I myself am a transsexual and i do everything as a female. my ID has my female name on it and gender says "F". i use the women's restrooms. this isnt what happens from day 1 though. there is a process to get to that point but once your in the real life test you do everything as the gender your trying to become.

It depends on where you live. Here in Canada, nothing in reference to gender can be changed until the gender reassignment is completed. At least that's how it was about five years ago when I transitioned. Things may have changed since.

I changed my name immediately, which didn't take any effort. Just a decision on a name, $150, and a visit to a registry office. My gender was changed on everything when I used a form from my birth province. My surgeon filled it out, my family doctor confirmed by physical examination that the surgery was complete, and voila! Gender was changed on my driver's license first, which allowed me to get a marriage license (I was getting married VERY soon), and I then sent the form into my birth province's vital statistics office, where my birth record was ammended. Today, it says "F" on everything. Thank god!

In regards to going to prison, I believe that here in Canada you would be admitted to a prison for people of the same gender that you are anatomically. I know there's been an uproar over this the past few years because of a pre-op TS woman being incarcerated in a men's prison. I don't know what came of it, though.

i live in Australia Queensland
on my drivers lenience i can change my M to a F with just a doctors letter stating that i live as a female
every thing else is just a name change not to much different to a woman getting married
like trade certificates
heath & medicare cards
car insurance etc

i am getting at the moment a name change certificate
stating old name and now the new name
my birth certificate can state the name change only
and only after surgery the can the gender be changed on the name change ceritifcate
to change all of these names i have to state i am transsexual
and i am starting live as a female
at the moment i still go out in boy mode when i do i go to the male toilet
when in girl mode i go to the female facility
i hope that answered your question
