pro rata means that advertising a rate of payment for a specific job and is usually used when a part time job is advertised , they advertise the rate for ful time hours and then get you to work out the rate of part time hours from that amount shown .

'In proportion to--' For example a recipe might say use 1 egg and 2 cups of flour for 2 portions or pro rata. So if you have to make 6 portions you would multiply everything by 3 (6/2) and use 3 eggs and 6 cups of flour.
