First of all I need to address that Wandermind guy above. You really need to do your homework before you make any kind of false allegations. Don't try to come off like you know what you're talking about when in reality your ignorance is apparent. You need to understand and see the WHOLE picture of a cause before you cast judgment. At least that's what EDUCATED people do.

And to answer the question, YES. Especially when the indigenous people are trying to preserve their culture and were promised certain rights and agreements lawfully from the offending government. Many fallacious deeds and agreements were brought forth and the outcome of it is the disintegration of a once thriving society. If a promise was made such as ceded lands, then a truly moral country would honor what was promised.

Sadly, in history there were (and unfortunately still are) marauding states that rape other cultures to dominate their land for power and money. What I mean by rape is telling the native people that their culture and beliefs are heathen, wrong and their native language shouldn't be spoken. It is a known fact that in order to kill a culture the native language should be abolished. It has been done too many times to many different cultures globally.

The preservation of indigenous people and the culture should be done especially if we have the means to see it through.

Dude,,,,,consider this. Every time a technological superior society has encountered an inferior technological society, the less developed society has been destroyed. North American natives, the Southern people in the middle Americas, the various islands in the Pacific Oceans....

Theres a reason why in the "Star Trek" universe theres the Prime Directive- which essentially says "Hands off until they reach the level of interstellar travel".

NASA has a manager whos job is to make sure that NASA doesn't cross contaminate our life forms here on earth to any other planet or solar system for the same reasons. Could you imagine what would happen if earth DNA was on mars, then someday life somehow started on mars?

hmmm... lets think about it - lets speak of native americans. well, yeah, although after stealing their land and using technical advantages to massacre them its a little too late to develop a conscience.

The Aborgines - similarly... the story there is more tragic. We can go around the world and look at how "we" - if by that you mean the european colonisers have destroyed culture after culture, civilizations after civilization - from the Incas to the Romany to the Mao Mao and so on.
What does remain is often turned into a quasi theme park for tourists to see the culture in its corrupted from. When i and some friends went to thailand we went on a trek and were shown a "real authentic hill tribe" - they were paid to do a show for us. the Joni Mithchell song Big yellow taxi comes to mind

A dollar and a half just to see em"

the world has become poorer for the loss of indigenous people and their culture. If we don't want a honogenous world watching Lost and listening to Britney we have to change the way we're going.

I thnk it is important to save all languages, since they are the cornerstone of culture. I am unsure how to save a people, since once they are "found" the know people of the larger world and it will start to change their understanding right away. It doesn't seem fair to quarantine them like lepers if they want to leave. Nor does it seem fair to let them become a tourist destination. I think that one or two trained people could videotape daily life and write journals of life with the specific tribe.

This is a very good question. I envision a broad range of answers. Racists (of all races) would say that there should be no interbreeding. While others (of those same races) would say that there should be no dominant race - white, black, red, or yellow. I personally would hate to see a one-race world. There is so much to be learned from other cultures, and I would hate to see those cultures disappear.

Depends if we can make money from them or not. We did preserve native americans and it worked out ok. We got some nice land and at the same time helped preserve them by putting them in protected areas where they could flourish. If it wasnt for our quick thinking, native americans would all be dead today, but now they live happily in their protected sanctuaries. God bless America!

No, they should preserve themselves. It is unlikely for native peoples to avoid integration and keep a pure blood line. Hawaiians are working at this. Most indigenous populations are very small.
