"I think it goes back to my first time with the Patriots," said Parcells, who was New England's linebackers coach in 1980.
"There was an old commercial from Starkist with Charlie the Starkist Tuna, so my players were trying to con me on something one time, and I said, 'You must think I'm Charlie the Tuna,' you know, a sucker, and that's kind of how it started.

I've always been curious myself so I found it.
announcers for the TNT television network claimed that while working as a defensive coordinator for the New York Giants, Mr. Parcells was the subject of numerous practical jokes. Finally, in frustration, Mr. Parcells turned on the jokers and allegedly asked, "Who do you think I am? Tommy the Tuna?" (Some claim he said "Charlie the Tuna," like the Starkist advertisement)
I always like to think because he is ice cold like a tuna. I think that's what the name implies which is why it still sticks.

one day during training camp he came to work smelling of fish,tuna fish.the smell was horrid and finally someone approached him about it.his explanation was that he had had sex with his wife the night before and since he was running late he didn't have time to shower.the tuna was born.hahahahahahaha!
