The must fly (at least the males). I saw one on top of a house. It made a sound like a loud cat meowing.
The peahens (females) and chicks always seem to be on the ground looking for food. There is a neighborhood in FL where they live. They come out just before the sun goes down each evening.
Another flightless bird is an emu. Native to Australia.
