The Calvary Church near my house is sponsoring a "Hallelujah Hoedown!" on 10/31, where the community is invited to enjoy an alternative to Halloween by having a Western Themed party for "The Faithful."
Lame...

I'll try to be more clear - the Church is having a NON-Halloween party. OK - now answer.

Uptight Christians, who overlook the fact that Halloween (hallowed evening before All Saints Day) evolved out of their own belief system, think all that about witches and goblins is devil worship. That's not jealousy, it's just ignorance.
Your hoedowners must not be Baptist. Old joke: why do Baptists never make love standing up? Answer: someone might think they're dancing.
The Stones have a lyric that's religious: "he can't be a man 'cause he doesn't smoke the same cigarette as me." If religion divides us instead of bringing us together, it has failed in its only socially redeeming function.

That is lame. I am Christian and I decorate my house with pumkpins and hand out treats for the kids. Halloween is a great time to meet your neighbors and have a good time. I hate when Church's try and make it a Fall Festival or something similar. Halloween is for the kids and let them have fun. I just wouldn't let mine be dressed up as demons or devils. I hope that other religions can enjoy let the kids enjoy Halloween and Christmas too.

When I was a kid our church always had a Halloween party and spook house for us. But of course churches are so diverse and split on different beliefs. I personally know of two churches where I live that still offer Halloween festivities for kids. But there's also a charismatic type church in town that has a spook house that supposed to be an abortion clinic. I think that is in really bad taste, no matter what your opinion on abortion might be.

Most people who have a relationship with God, and who serve him, are a little offended by the idea of celebrating a holiday in the honor of his enemy. Just like most people would be a little offended by somone dressing up as Hitler for halloween. Personally I think it's retarded for the church to try to have an alternative party. People who don't like halloween should simply choose not to participate on the 31st.

I am a Christian. I don't know of any Christian that has a problem with Halloween. Our Church and school has Halloween Party's just to keep the kids off the streets. It's becoming quite dangerous for adults out there much less children. I heard of one community that is rounding the pedophiles up from 3 pm to 5 pm while the kids go trick or treating. Could be some who feel that way. Just to be safe from injury I always made my kids paint their face instead of wearing a mask so they had full vision and wouldn't fall down and could watch for cars.

Halloween is Samhain, when the barrier between this world and the otherworld is at its thinnest. The spirits of the otherworld can cross over to this one easier on this night. The bonfire and spreading of salt or grain on the doorstep is meant to ward of evil spirits from the home. There is nothing about Satan in the festival. Even the Christian festivals tagged on (Dios de los Muertos etc) use the night and day following to remember loved ones who have passed on.

Of course not and never will. Nothing at all to be jealous of!
Satan and his followers will end up in the Lake of Fire for Eternity.
Little kids that just dress up and get candy is fine.
Those that glorify Satan during Halloween ......thats a different story. We all have to choose...........good or evil. So, you think it's Lame to be good? The Bible says to Choose This Day Whom You Will Serve?

There's a link to explain what some Christians believe about Halloween. This doesn't represent all of us, though.
I'm a Christian, and for me, it's a fun time to dress up and pass out candy to kids. I think it's what an individual chooses to make of it.
