A house fly usually lays its eggs on a rotting material(like dead rats and poo) so that its young(called maggots) can eat it.Maggots look like small fat worms and only eat dead cells. After the female fly lays its eggs on the rotting material, the maggots hatch and start devouring it.They develop into adult flys in a few days and agin look for a mate, then mate, and lay its egg on a rotten thing, and like this the life cycle continues. They are known to live for about 30 days.
Life cycle of a mosquito:-
Only the female mosquitoes suck blood(the male sucks plant juice) and uses the protein in it to lay their eggs. They lay their eggs in water, and the larvae hatch in the water, they also look like small worms, but are longer and thinner than maggots. The larvae than feed by filter-feeding on tiny organisms in the water, they also eat microscopic algae. After about a few days they reach adulthood. While in the larval stage they develop wings and legs inside them. After leaving their larval stage the female fly off to find a host,to suck blood and lay their eggs for the cycle to continue.Adult mosquitoes usually live for 3 days only.
Life Cycle of dragonfly:-
They are predatory insects, both in the larval stage and adult stage they hunt. The females, after mating, also lays the eggs in water. The offspring hatch into a nymp and feed on other insect larva, such as mosquito larvae.Like this they spend their nymph stage, and after reaching adulthood mate and hunt and eat other insects. The nymp stage of some species of dragonfly can last upto four years!Adults usually live upto 2 months.

house fly lays its eggs on material that could be used as food for the larvae.
all insects have a 4 phase development (egg, larva, pupa, adult)
Mosquitoes and dragonflies lay their eggs in water (puddles), mosquito larva feed on rotting material, dragonfly larva are predators, mosquitoes pupate in water, while dragonflies pupate on a branch near the surface.

Flys seem to prefere a nice fresh pile of dog s- - t. But I think they like any kind of rancid smelling stuff. Thats why too its agood idea not to leave your pets food out for too long. The eggs a digested in their stomachs, and the larve,or worms that hatch just love it in there. I dont think any one of those insects live for any more than a couple of months.
