I did a experiment with my daughter one year for her science project, it was labled Why name brand or Why no name brand. We did 6 different detergents with 10 different items either with grease, mud, grass, blood ect. and Tide was the best every time . It is a great product , I use twice as much when I bought the cheaper brands then I do using Tide.

Tide, like a lot of other detergents is made by Proctor and Gamble (P&G). You could ask them and see what they have to say. My educated guess would be the either the ingredients cost a lot or they are hard to get or else the process to make the Tide is expensive or perhaps both. It is a good detergent, however I prefer ERA also made by P&G but a lot cheaper and works real good. However a lot depends on what type of "dirt" you are trying to get out.

I love the smell of Tide but refuse to spend that much on detergent...so when it's on sale or I have a coupon, I buy it and then mix it with cheaper brands. Half of Tide and a half of a cheaper detergent works good enough for me and I still get that scent.

Just what the market will bare. Lots of people think it is better but never question why. Frankly I have noticed no difference between $20 gallon tide and the $5 purex.

I love Tide To Go sample. It really works for me. I mean, I can really be clumsy at times, and it helps remove sauce stain even on my white dress. So I guess, investing on Tide is really worthwhile! I learned all about it from this site http://www.upkb.com/tidetogo.php

The label. Take the pepsi challenge with some other cheaper ones like Purex or Arm and Hammer.

Because most people believe it to be the best. So people are willing to pay more for what they believe to be the best.

It's a top brand name. I've used it and a cheaper brand and the cheaper brand did just fine.
