Try starlight peppermints the mint will help settle your stomach and the stomach acid causing the heartburn...

At your next dr's appointment ask the dr if he can prescribe something for the heart burn there are now meds that are safe and effective you can take during pregnancy...

Yogurt is easier to digest than milk and might not require as much. Buy plain. Just eat a bit of the plain yogurt (it really will help as much as over-the-counter heartburn remedies and is way better and SAFER) and follow the other suggestions (like eating small meals frequently, crackers, propping yourself up with pillows).

If you're really queasy don't read the rest of my answer.

But suggestions for experimentation... you might sweeten the yogurt with maple syrup or honey. If you can stomach it, you could add any kind of fruit (bananas are nice and sweet, or apples, strawberries, whatever you crave). Use jam or jelly if you'd rather.

Or you can go the other way and add a bit of sea salt to taste, I think Indian recipes do that sometimes. If you decide to go the salty/savoury route you can try adding some onion powder or dried onions, garlic.

Other herbs might be nice too, but if you want to be cautious check with your doctor or midwife before using (some, like sage, aren't recommended during pregnancy, others are fine after the first trimester).

Consider other dairy, organic if possible (easier to digest and better for you and baby in my opinion). Cottage cheese, cream cheese, havarti. I'd avoid brie and old cheese, but that's just me!

Good luck with this! Don't worry, you'll get through it. "This too will pass."

Looking at other suggestions, I just remembered in the past my husband brewed up a mint-chamomile combo that was VERY successful. It was really nice. Just use one tea bag of each and double the amount of water. (Unless you use loose tea like my hubby in which case you'd be able to judge quantity yourself anyways). Sweeten with honey or maple syrup and sip as desired. Might be just the thing. Enjoy!

Actually the lactic acid in the milk can further irritate your tummy.
Try an old remedy from back in your grandma's day. Take about one and a half ounces of warm water and add a quarter teaspoon of baking soda to it and drink it down. Tastes lousy but the sodium bicarbonate will neutralize the stomach acid. It might cause you to burp as the acid is being neutralized.

Harmless to baby too.

I am 19 weeks pregnant with my third, and have had horrible heartburn with all three. I take tums. The doctor says it is great because of the extra calcium. If that doesn't help talk to your doctor, they may be able to prescribe something for it. Good luck!!

Oh I am so sorry you are having this symptom. I remember it so well. I used Tums and I propped myself up in bed with extra pillows. Also, I ate saltine crackers and drank plenty of water. Avoid citrus, tomato's and the like as they are already acidic. And I wish I could help you more, but it is best for you to talk to your OB.

Good Luck.

Peace.

hunny, drink some chamomile tea with a little hunny for taste. That will help. Also, don't forget the crackers.
