I think his portrayal of the sociopathic Nazi Commandant was perhaps his greatest. A great villian.

To the poster who said that Schindler's List was boring-! It one of the last epics in Hollywood to be released, a stunning display of human frailty and cruelty. I simply cannot understand how someone can see such a materpiece as a snooze, although I guess it doesn't appeal to lowest common denominator like the slap-stick/frat boy comedies, the cheesy love stories and tired rehashed material that is routinely being released into America's theaters.

The movie was awesome, would have been better without him & Ralph Fiennes carried the role too far off set. He was so into his role that he took it home. There were several stories about how his wife was wishing the movie would wrap up faster than usual, stating how scared, frightened & stressed out by his antics at home.

He's also acting himself into a corner by playing villians. While that's a challenging & exciting role to play, he'll become typecast in it & have an extremely hard time being cast in another role, like drama or even comedy. He may lose awesome movie scripts & roles for this too.

As Voldemort in HP GOF, I wasn't surprised when he was chosen. It was all hush hush & I'd heard he was chosen due to his role in Schindler's List. He was on Regis & Kelly soon after his name came out as being chosen to play Voldemort. I thought the interview stunk & he was very vague about the whole role. Then again, he stinks as an actor.

Ralph Fiennes' preformance was outstanding! The movie is definately on my top 10 favorites, as I have seen Schindler's List several times and enjoy the acting, cinematography, and find the movie captivating with all the historical content, era costume, & set designs.

Fiennes is a very good actor. I know the role you're describing in Schindler's List. He was nominated for that. He can play a British gentleman or a psycho like in Red Dragon. I recently saw Quiz Show and he was good in that. He really understands his characters.

Ralph Fiennes has a special place in my heart.
When I saw him nuzzle Stars neck on the View,
I was done. This man has the right name, HE IS "FINE"
FIENNES. The thing I got from him nuzzling Stars
neck, is that he "LIKES" us. This man likes women.
Not all men do.Some like things about us more. You can
tell he has a close relationship with the females lucky
enough to be in his life. :-D
Ha ha ha, I wonder if he will see this. I'm blushing now.

Ralph is a favorite with me and I loved him in The English Patient and Oscar and Lucinda. The Constant Gardener was great too. I think you are right about the Nazi portrayal as his best work. He was stunning! I hope I haven't missed any of his movies.

I definitely have to agree. It was a rather brilliant performance by Mr. Fiennes, and like you said one of the best villains in recent memory.
