I was watching videos on the internet late into the night when I stumbled across a video of some preacher who said that you can buy a car with gold -- and then you'll TRULY own it. Furthermore, he said you wouldn't need a license plate, since you truly own it.

That doesn't make very much sense to me, but is that true -- or has it ever been true? I can't find any information about it!

Umm, no. Not legally, no. If you have tons of gold, I'm sure the bank would give you a sweet deal in cash. You can then use that to buy your car. You would need to get license plates though (and car insurance!).

The preacher was probably being metaphorical.

If you live in the US, you may own gold now (for a while it was illegal private citizens to own gold), but it is not legal tender, so technically, you can't buy a car with gold. You can barter with it, though you'll not likely get a fair exchange rate.

Can you find out what the guy was smoking?

Sounds like crap to me.

However, gold is valid currency. The problem? Pure gold is actually worth MORE than our currency now. So why spend it? Save it for a rainy day, when it will be worth even more.

in some countries you can trade directly using gold, and pay for things with gold, it is like a barter system yet gold has some value in any monetary system because of its rarity durability and usefulness.

I do believe in God but as for listening to Televangelists, I don't give them much credence other than their own desire to get rich and gather the biggest congregation to add to their coffers.

What the televangelist means if you give him gold he will TRULY own a nicer Lamborghini, then he will justify it by saying he is doing God's work and God thinks he needs a Lamborghini.

Some televangelists believe what they are saying, but use your discernment

Don't know what or where you heard that- but it sounds totally goofy and I would ignore it! So what should you buy a car with? Never buy a car with cash. Always build up your credit with a car loan. The of course pay it off timely. You will be successful in life.

depends who you buy it from I guess. From a dealership, probably not, but from someone who collects and sells cars as a hobby most definitely.
