By road via Mysore.There are many buses service from the Kempegowda Bus Station(Majestic) to Ooty via Mysore.Since the journey takes only 8 hours most buses are servicing at night.i.e after 8.pm so that you can reach in ooty in the early morning .

by road, thats the best way. it takes almost 8 hrs via mysore and the madumali wild life sanctury.
good place depends on your budget, one of the best places is the holiday inn or the taj hotels which is in proper ooty as well as in coonoor which is about 11 kms from ooty.
besides you have the ITC hotel, sinclares, sterling, and in budget you can check hotel lake view which is just rs 700/-
sagar resorts is a good one too costing about rs 1200/-
