when you get the error notice click on send report, then click more info.your browser will open and take you to Microsoft's error page and most of the time will tell you why your computer crashed.it's most likely not a virus but a mechanical problem.

For spyware etc. you can try a few different programs:

Always remember to update your programs and try to do your scans in SAFE MODE!

I would recommend downloading Ewido Security Suite. It's a trial, but it will do the job and give you time to add security to your pc. This is the download link:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/.........

You should have some background security running at all times! Here are a few that I suggest:
Antivir (antivirus) http://www.free-av.com/

Spybot Search & Destroy (Spyware removal & protection) If you use the advanced mode, it is an excellent protection program!

Adaware ( Adware scanner) It's a good complement to Spybot.

Whenever you have a really nasty persistent pest on your computer, Hijackthis may save you from having to format and re-install your operating system!

If you ever need help, remember that there are lots of people online willing to help you! Take some time to familiarize yourself with various forums so that when you need them, you'll know where to go. The last link I gave you is for www.merjin.org and they have many resources available along with user support. I highly recommend them as a support for your security and/or clean up needs!

Good Luck!

Spybot - Search & Destroy detects and removes spyware, a relatively new kind of threat not yet covered by common anti-virus applications. Spyware silently tracks your surfing behaviour to create a marketing profile for you that is transmitted without your knowledge to the compilers and sold to advertising companies. If you see new toolbars in your Internet Explorer that you haven't intentionally installed, if your browser crashes inexplicably, or if your home page has been "hijacked" (or changed without your knowledge), your computer is most probably infected with spyware. Even if you don't see the symptoms, your computer may be infected, because more and more spyware is emerging. Spybot-S&D is free, so there's no harm giving it a try to see if something has invaded your computer.

it might not b a virus, but get an antivirus, scan ur pc, pick the virus name.
go online and type it in google.. the first antivirus name u see is the one that is most likely efficient in cleaning it. if ur antivirus is listed, follow the instructions on the company's page to remove it.
schedule like 10hrs to do this

if that's a virus, you may want to scan your pc using the Trend Micro's House Call Online Scan (http://www.trendmicro.com/hc_intro/default.asp).

it you have a spyware (Trend Micro tells you that you have one, but doesn't remove it for free!!!!!), you may want to try another tool such as Microsoft Windows Defender (http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx) or scan online using The "Trend Micro Anti-Spyware for the Web" (http://www.trendmicro.com/spyware-scan)

Your problem might be neither!!!! Your windows (or any other OS) might be damaged (or at least some services), you may want (if the first two steps didn't work) to re-install Windows. Just open the Windows CD and run setup normally. NOTE: DON'T FORMAT YOUR HDD, AND INSTALL AS UPGRADE (RATHER THAN STAND-ALONE INSTALLATION(
