not as disciplined as ballet and not as wild as jazz dancing. Sort of like interpretive dancing.. As a young girl, I fit into the modern dance much more than ballet (as my teacher told me) because I was short and had a rounder figure than the thin boob-less leggy girls who were built for ballet.. We usually started with a ballet bar stretching ruitine and a quick floor ruitine to get warmed up. I frankly love it.. a nice alternative to aerobic exercise, but just as fullfilling.

Modern is definetly up to interpretation. There are so many different choreographers who have created these wonderful pieces thay are all considered modern but are not anywhere near the same. If you are interested in modern class I would look up some of the greats first, there is not really a set definition for modern so you can better understand what it is by where it came from. Look up Isadora Duncan, Martha Graham, Alvin Ailey, Merce Cunningham, Bill T. Jones, Ruth St. Denis, Yvette Rainer- those would be a good start.
If you want to take a modern class, you must keep an open mind- no inhibitions allowed.
Have Fun!

Modern dancing is a free form of ballet, so to speak. It helps to have ballet backgound to dance modern (just like with any form of dance, ballet is the best foundation you can wish for), but you can learn modern without learnign classical ballet I'm sure. I'd still highly recommend some ballet, this way you have better knowledge and understanding.

She's right modern dancing is sort of like free form ballet. But what sets apart modern dance from the other dances is it's diversity of style. "Diversity" you must know a lot styles to begin with. Though i am confused with neo-classical ballet is it a sub of modern dance? :D i too am a beginner.

All i can say that anything is modern. It could be changing all the time, and it is. If you enjoy one type of dancing, it could be modern to you while its not to someone else and visa versa.. and no you don't need to be experienced in ballet!

you're not at all too previous to start dance. i began dancing whilst i became approximately eleven, now i'm 15 and am perfect the place i ought to be alongside with different 15-year-olds even however lots of all of them started at an age like 6. the component that worked for me whilst i began became I took private classes for a mutually as. i became no longer good adequate to be interior the learning with different eleven-year-olds becasue that they had far greater journey (as i discussed previously, many had strted at a youthful age.) and that i became way too previous to be with the different beginners who have been everywhere from 5-8. private classes helped me using fact i ought to income at my own p.c.. and get greater one-on-one. i additionally took classes 4 days a week. regardless of the undeniable fact that this could be somewhat unpractical for some, widespread dancing makes each and all of the version. If I have been you, i might additionally in keeping with possibility take faucet. it extremely is fairly relaxing and fairly common to catch on. wish this helps... and good luck playstation - the main issue would be flexibility. as quickly as you're a undeniable age its greater good to alter into versatile, and as quickly as you get your era it take like triple the time to get your splits. so a strategies as this, merely prepare extensive-unfold and heat up and calm down fairly properly, and quickly adequate you would be there
