I would tell you to make sure the connection is property secured, but you said that your computer recognizes it, but you just can't open folders. Have you try to reboot and see if it works. If this doesn't work, try to go to Best Buy or some computer store and see if they can get the data off and transfer it to another external hard drive.

I've had the same issue before. In my case, after doing some research on the issue, I found that Windows doesn't appreciate it when you have too many USB devices installed.

I unplugged one or two of them, rebooted and that took care of my problem.

Good luck!

in many cases - when I even have this concern (offering some thing isn't broken) that's apersistent mapping concern. have you ever further something? a reminiscence Stick? a digicam? in case you probably did the oldpersistent letter which you employ to apply on your externalpersistent and the hot one may well be sharing apersistent letter.. (like H: case in point) to restoration it visit device supervisor and delete the different instruments... then reboot... and then plug and pray...er play!

If your computer is not working properly when it is switched on, it could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software.
