I think it depends on what you see yourself doing. If you don't know quite yet, major in whatever you find interesting and then find some sort of job in a field you think you might be interested in when you get out of college. If you then find your dream career, go back to school for it, if it was not what you had gone to school for in the first place. If you just get on a career path, but it's not what you want to do, then in the end you'll have wasted your time.

Both if you can manage it.
Accounting if you like numbers, can lead to payroll - which pays well because all companies need a payroll person
History or English if you like reading, do an MLS and be a librarian
You dont have to do a degree. Even learning a trade at a technical college can pay more than a person with a degree - because the trades are in huge demand right now.
