I am English so I don't know how old a sophmore is. I wrote this 14 line poem/sonnet when I was 15. It is very personal to me but I will gladly let you have it. Hope you can use it.

So close yet too far to make a dream come true
My sadness deep but too shallow to be blue
I can no longer dream as I will only awake
I can no longer think as my head will ache
Tears well up but they do not fall
For I am trapped in this love by an invisible wall
My love has past and will not return
My heart no longer with passion does burn
My feelings have changed and have now grown cool
For you led me on and I looked like a fool
I thought that your feelings for me were the same
I had no Idea you were playing a game
But I couldn't forget and I lingered still
'Cause there was a way and I had the will

Hope you can use it if not I have written loads, more simple, more wierd, more lines etc

Shall I compare thee to a summer's day?
Thou art more lovely and more temperate:
Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May,
And summer's lease hath all too short a date:
Sometime too hot the eye of heaven shines,
And often is his gold complexion dimm'd;
And every fair from fair sometime declines,
By chance, or nature's changing course, untrimm'd;
But thy eternal summer shall not fade,
Nor lose possession of that fair thou owest;
Nor shall Death brag thou wander'st in his shade,
When in eternal lines to time thou growest;
So long as men can breathe, or eyes can see,
So long lives this, and this gives life to thee

I think you need to write your own love sonnet. That IS cheating you know.

this is original I just wrote it
but a search may find it
if someone where to check

I saw you coming down the hall
it was as if I hit a wall
you shined like a beam of light
instantly my heart took flight

It felt like I was in a dream
time slowed down or so it seemed
voices blurred into choir
for the first time I knew desire

I was drawn to you like a moth to flame
only you are to blame
for the moment that I saw your face
all else vanished without a trace

Some of these answers are a bit off - one is by Shakespeare and the other has more than the regulation number of lines! (Which is 14) Why don't you try? You might surprise yourself.

I remember that assignment from when I was in high school..hmm...anyway, I think you should make an attempt. Try and see what comes out...you'll probably do much better then you think!

Ho do I love thee
Let me text the ways
I love thee to the amount my cell phone bill will allow
To thine and thine only will I text message
To mine old ho's I text not, care not
Only to thee will I stalk to thine death
with mine text, with mine mind so gone I know not
what I do.
Mine one and only ho.
