Why does my dishwasher do such a crappy job? Leaving behind minute particles on dishes, even though I rinse them well before putting them in the dishwasher. And it's a fairly recent year Whirlpool.

Check your water temperature in the dishwasher. If the temp. is not at least 120 degrees the water will not dissolve the detergent properly and not remove the grease properly from the dishes and leave food particles behind.

You should always run the water in the sink until it gets it's hottest before starting the dishwasher to ensure that you get the hottest water available but that does not guarantee that it will be 120 or more degrees for a good cleaning.

Consumer Reports says the type of dishwasher detergent you use has more to do with the dishes getting clean that the brand/type of dishwasher. That said check the bottom of the dishwasher for food, residue, anything. Make sure it is clean. A lot of people have turned their water heater down either to save money or prevent scalding so check your water heater, it should be set at 120 degrees. Or if your dishwasher has a setting that heats the water you can use that instead. Run the water in the faucet closest to the dishwasher till it is hot. Next run the dishwasher empty with 2 cups of white vinegar. This will both clean & disenfect. Wipe down the seals make sure they are clean if they have mold then you are not getting a good seal and that needs to be fixed. Now purchase a good dishwasher detergent, a liquid or a gel or gel packs, for now stay away from the powder so you don't have to worry about whether it is disolving or not. Fill both cups right before starting the dishwasher. To prepare your dishes and pans, either scrape or rinse well, (yes I know you said you do that). Start the dishwasher using the longest cycle available. If that doesn't work call a repairman. Extra thoughts - if you are not going to run the dishwasher right after a meal then you probably have a rinse and hold cycle, use it but make sure the heat dry is turned off. It will rinse your dishes again but the other advantage is it gets the dishwasher warm & keeps the dishes moist. As long as they don't dry the stuff on them comes off easy. Next the detergent, like I said start off with a liquid. I like Cascade Complete, I keep it and a cheap no name liquid then depending on how full the dishwsher is and how dirty the dishes are I use the appropriate one. Until you get clean dishes I would start with the best and then as long as you are getting clean dishes you can start changing and taking short cuts. And I would suggest that on all the things I have said, once you get a hold on getting clean dishes you can start taking short cuts, if the dishes don't come clean then go back to the better way. Again if this does't help I would suggest a repairman. Good Luck!

Have you checked the drain? Sometimes food can get stuck in the drain and cause problems. Other than that, I don't know what to tell you other than rinse the dishes even better. There's only been a couple of dishwashers I've lived with that have made me happy when it came to cleaning dishes. And one of those was my boyfriend.

Give your dishwasher a cycle with a cup of white vinegar thru it. No dishes, just the wash.
This will clean the pipes. Also, I always use a rinse aid, so make sure that is full every couple of washes.
That should help

Check the owners manual, but there is a food grinder and catch in most basin of the washer. Clean it regular and remove food and spoons that get trapped.

It could be the water is too hard and is leaving soap crystal in, because they don;t dissolve. There are various products to add that help, but try a liquid dishwasher soap or such.

I know this sounds crazy, but it's true! My friends parents were having trouble with their new dishwasher. The repair person told them that if they washed their dishes too well before they put them in the dishwasher, it wouldn't work as well! I don't remember why it is, but that's what he said. So, they didn't rinse the dishes completely clean, and it works fine now.

The water filling the dishwasher must be very hot for the detergent to be effective. Run you kitchen faucet until the water is hot ,then start the washer .Fill the detergent cups completely. If that does not solve the problem .call for service.
