A junior high school has a sign that says "all students bring joy into this room, either when they enter or when they leave" and it's there for everyone to see, isn't that just a little...i dont know... rude?!

I thought administrators and those office people were supposed to make the kids feel welcome, I don't know about you, but it doesn't make me feel too welcome.

I have never made fun of any administrators. I am a good student and I personally don't like the secretarys and people in the office they never make me feel welcome, and it also not right for teachers to say that their favorite months are June and July because teachers should be teachers because they like children and they enjoy teaching people.

i know you're a kid and you feel real self righteous now but wait ten years. You are going to look back on your twelve year old self and realize what a complete horror you were. Anyone who works with kids your age has my sympathy.

Is that any different than "the teacher's favorite time of year is June and July!"? It's just a joke. I'm sure you've never joked about any of the administrators or teachers, have you? Before you pick up the stone to cast, examine yourself.

I think you are right. It is rude. School is a place that all kids have to go to and spend a good amount of time at. All things in the school should be positive and encouraging to the students. All kids have something joyful about them and it shouldn't be said that it is their leaving the office. That school needs to be reprimanded.

I am a parent and would have a FIT if that sign was posted in the schools my children attend.

I don't think it's really any different than when kids make jokes about their teachers or the school itself. It kind of just shows that the administration has a sense of humor.

It is definitely rude! But since I deal with middle schoolers i can understand the sentiment. I think I would ask them to either remove it, move it or change it to " all people bring joy......" Now doesn't that just ring true, since we all know some teachers who are, let's say, less than joyful!

Though perhaps might or could be interpreted as a little rude , a little humor is a must in a middle school! Just hope your own child gives joy when s/he walks in!

Isn't it true?
The intention is to get people to think about their behavior and maturity - do you leave having made things better or worse?
It should be our goal to be positive and always leave things better - so that we are the one who brings joy when they come in the room. Don't you like people who you are glad to see? Not the ones you are glad to see leave?

Which are you?

I'm a teacher. Yes, it is a bad, immature thing to have. It's downright scary to stick it there for the children to see. Is this a public school (which depends on government funding to survive)? My guess is that it is.
