I love Christmas. Every year I go wild and shower my family and boyfriend with gifts. I just really enjoy it. In the past, I've always been financially able to do so.

I have about $900 in the bank, and my paychecks average about $130 a week. I'm starting college two weeks after Christmas, so I'm not sure if it would be wise to spend all that money on gifts (my parents do not give me money and with not be assisting me financially in college).

Should I deposit all of my paychecks and just spend how ever much, should I just leave my bank account alone and cash my paychecks until all the gifts are bought, or should I just go really easy and not spend much money on everyone? In a way I'd like to do that, but I don't want to look cheap or buy crappy gifts. Plus this is my first Christmas with my current boyfriend and I want to get him nice gifts, since I've always done that with past boyfriends.

Any advice would be appreciated.

I also enjoy going nuts at Christmas for those I care for. Under the circumstances I would try to think of less expensive but completely thoughtful gifts that expresses your understanding of who that person truly is. To be acknowledged for who we truly are is the greatest gift of all. You can go nuts again in the future when the time is right. Plus if they understand your circumstances they would feel more concern than pleasure if they knew you overextended yourself.

Be a little prudent. Take some extra time picking out the right gifts. Maybe one gift a year is a truly thoughtful gift let that be from you. Set a limit on how much to spend on each person. Leave some money left over for your self because you are not really sure how much extra you may need in the next year. Let that be your gift to yourself.

i am sure people would understand, at least those who know you and love you, that you are in college and we all know that people in school, who are supporting themselves anyways, are not rich. so if you can buy one nice (not necessarily expensive) gift for each friend/family member you will be fine. Another thing that just happens in my family and its weird that when i got married before i had my son my husband and i both got gifts. now we have our son, we don't get gifts, just a card for us two and a gift for our son. same thing happens for my sister and her husband...last year they had their baby they get a card and gift for the kid. ultimately the best thing you can do is search for a meaningful gift that comes from the heart will go further than trying to fill every inch under the tree.

Honey I think you should cut back and get less expensive gifts. You have you college to pay for, and that is very important. Its the thought that counts. They should understand being with the economy these days. God Bless you. Have a Merry Christmas

If you have the money...only buy for those who love and respect you. Don't waste money on those who wouldn't bend backwards for you. Have a nice Christmas buddy!
