Okay So I want to write a book. I have a pretty good idea on what I want the book to be about. So here are my questions. Does anyone have any book writing tips? If so what are they? In your opinion, which would be better to write. A childrens book, a young adult book, or a novelty? Do you know of any websites where I can go to look up book writing tips? Also what would be a good lenght for a childrens book if I were to write a childrens book? a young adult book? a novelty?
Thanks so much in advanced for everyones help. I really appericate it.

Thanks to everyone that has answered my question so far. I do , infact, know what I want to write. I have decided to write a fictional scary or horror story.... I have the first chapter just about done. I have one question though. How many chapters should this book be about. I was thinking about maybe 7 or 8 chapters. Do you think that is a good length?
Once again thank you in advanced for all your help.

G'day Yanksbubbacever,

Thank you for your question.

It depends on your material as to which format best suits it. I would sit down and plan it out and that will tell you which your novel will work best as.

As for the length, it depends on the material. However, the books in the Harr Potter series have grown progressively longer without losing effectiveness. The length will depend on how long you can write a story including the things you need and want to include without it seeming forced.

I have attached possible sites on writing books.

Regards

I think a good tip would be to write what you enjoy, something you would want to read. Another thing is to read, read, read. It would also help if you write regularly. Children's books are always fun, and Young Adult books are usually more serious. It would depend on what you're writing. You should think of an idea you like first then decide on whether it's going to be a children's book, a young adult book, or a novelty. Great places to get tips are from author's pages. They usually have tips for their readers. Ask your favorite author and i'm sure they'll be glad to help.

The best type of book to write is one you're passionate about. Once you figure out which one brings you the most joy to write, research the market.
I bought the 2007 Novel and Short Storyt Writer's Market. It tells you where and how to sell your fiction, and is more geared toward adult writing (mine is suspense).
I believe they also have ones for young adults/children. Also, for practice, you can sign up for free for writing.com to write a few stories and get some feedback, and/or read stories from that genre. Good Luck!

A children's book and be about 250 words long with lots of pictures. A young adult book could be about 100 pages long, and a Novel about 350 pages long. An novel would go into more detail than a young adult book, and remember to use words geared to your audience.

You have to write what YOU want to write about, not what you think may sell. If you try to go for the sell, the story will probably not be worth reading because it will lack passion. A strong ending is always great and focus, focus, focus on your characters and make them real and relatable to your target audience! I say relatable, and not necessarily likable, because Scarlett O'Hara wouldn't have been liked by most people, but we can relate to why she did the things she did given the circumstances she was forced to endure.
Just have a passion for your characters and concentrate on building the 3rd dimention into those and the rest will come naturally (situations that the characters must deal with, etc).

I am also writing a book (novel). Like most have said, you have to write about what you enjoy. There is no right or wrong way to approach writing. There is only the way that works for you. Good luck.
