Dahlia is one of my collections of many flowers. I love the diversity of flower types and colors. I have 30 plus right now all around my flowerbeds. There is truth to upkeep but I don't dig mine. I leave them in the ground over the winter. Water and a good time released food source. And removing the old dead blooms (dead heading) will give you months of bloom and flower arrangements on your table. I love to watch the bees and humming bird gather around them. They bloom right into a hard freeze, as long as I keep them dead headed. Beautiful fall color is a great plus. We have a dahlia grower not far from us so we can go through the field and enjoy what God created for us. If considering purchasing them look for local growers so you know they will grow in your area.

My favorite has always been a Gardenia..always
When I was young my best friend's Mother had a huge Gardenia bush in her back yard and when they bloomed she would pick a big bowl of them and put them on her kitchen table....ah... they made the whole house smell sweet!
Later in life I always had at least one bush in my yard and would pick the blooms and place them around my house. I especially liked a vase of them on my night stand...I could smell that sweet fragrance all night long!
Now I have three bushes along my driveway and pick them whenever possible.......I love that fragrance!
For a while I wore a perfume called Gardenia Jungle, but have had a hard time finding it as of late. If I ever do find it, rest assured that is what I will be wearing.

dahlias. because they are more interesting , and while the gardenia has beautiful fragrance , it lacks a bit compared to the varieties and shapes of dahlias . but also true is more upkeep is required for dahlias , such as staking them from strong winds . but the upside is because varieties are tubers and can be split , as well as collecting the seeds and propagating ; probably makes them more interesting and challenging if you have the time i guess .
