I don't get it...Isn't it the woman's choice? If she chooses to wear it by her own will, why is it bothering others? It's her life. What ever happened to freedom of religion? It seems like the society that is so disrespectful towards it is the true oppressor, claimer her to remove it. Wheres the freedom, I ask??

Well, actually JD, according to religion, a woman is aloud to remove the veil for photo IDs (such as a passport, drivers license or a health card, etc) if the government requires you to do so.

It is required as part of their faith to wear the Hijab, just like a nun is required to wear her habit. In the Quran, it states that a woman must obey the faith by wearing the Hijab. It is said the Hijab is to protect them from harm and to shield others viewing the women fully. The Hijab does not have a veil, the Burka does.

You know what, I don't know why! My older sister wears the hijab (headscarf) and there are people who look at her condescendingly and ask, "Why do you have to wear that thing?". 'That thing'...As if it's an ugly piece of material...! My sister wears beautiful, colourful scarves by the way.

I said the same thing about who is being the 'true oppressor' just the other day. Plus, it's not like Islam is asking women to wear the bikini in front of men... which one can argue is degrading for women. Why is it so wrong when a woman chooses to cover herself? :s

Well dow2eart!
I think if you wanna have hijab its nth against it or bad in it.
Coz each and every individual has his or her own belief system that I think no one has the right to challenge or force about anyth.
Secondly if you are complaining about why people interfre in such things than listen dear you have to accept these things coz such kind of people are filled in this mother earth and they just dont let yo free and interfere in each and evry aspect of your life like y havnt you got married uptil ,, why arent you having children and all such things.
I too hate all such kind a stuff but nth is in my hands to get these people change.Actually they like to poke their noses in evone's matters.
The third th I l say is that every era has its own requiremants. In the past Identity cards were not necessary or photographs on passports or driving licences (I mean in olden times).......But now all these things are necessary and to have these you will have to remove that pardah ...So I guess not necessary to wera it in the present era .....You can have your head covered by a scarf!

I think the main problem comes with things like getting a photo ID made and wanting to keep the veil in place. It kind of defeats the purpose of having a photo ID. Wanting exclusivity from having to remove the veil for various reasons, so a full view of the face is obscured, is what is hard to understand and is objectionable to the rest.

It is perfectly all right for a woman to wear a Hijab just as it is all right for a woman to wear a cross, crucifix, or a Star of David. People who say otherwise really cannot say they believe in freedom.
