I live in a womens dorm, we all get ours the same week, it has to do with the hormones. 40 women all at the same time on our periods, can you imagine?

I ve heard of this before. I dont recall if its kind of a mental thing whereby women find it comforting to be similar with their "sisters" or its more a physical thing whereby phermones (hormones relating to odors) will make women in sync.

I do recall that there is an "alpha" or leading female that will start her period and the rest will follow in a day or two.

I know this kills any notion on my part of ever having a harem.

That is very interesting. Last week my SIL came over and asked for a tampon because she said that she just started and I was like "me too." Then later a friend said hers did too. She is in another state. Even though I don't live with these people it's pretty interesting.

i always wanted to know that question myself. that always happens to me, the few of my good friends i hang with and been friends with for real long time. one person would be getting off their period , the next person would start theirs, there has been times a couple of us would start at the same, have the same cycle for awhile until someones cycle decides to change. it's just strange..lol

I heard that hormones sometimes leave the body through sweat, so women who live together or are in frequent close contact can take in each other's menstrual hormones through their sweat.

I had always heard it was a sociological issue dating back to ancient times and based on survival needs.

I found both the sociological and scientific arguments.
