...A British outfit decided these "smoking sequences" in Tom and Jerry were harmful to children (encouraging them to smoke) and so they removed the harmful smoking parts from these Tom and Jerry cartoons.
...Man, was I glad! I remember how harmful Popeye and his pipe were to me - I went out immediately as a young child and quickly became addicted to Sir Walter Raleigh in a can.
...Seriously, will the idiocy ever stop?

The idocy will not end..... And in fact Popeye has fallen before the "God of Censoring". In later (80s or 90s series) episodes Popeye cartoons had moral lessons after the episode. And one explained that he doesn't smoke his pipe "It's just for tooting!"

I hate "Political Correctness".

That is a little extreme. Tom and Jerry are hardly role models. You might as well ban the whole cartoon because it could encourage kids to hit each other with frying pans.

So does that mean every time someone in the old cartoons had a drink or sang the song "How Dry I AM" while hiccuping mean that all that watched became drunks?

Where is the toon that showed folks smoking crack?

Folks need to get a life, seriously.

Never, I also heard they wanted to ban part of the dining sequence in The Little Mermaid as Grimsby lights up a pipe!

(Which is a shame, as there is an absolutely hysterical joke with all that)

How can you deny the harm this has caused our children...? Look at how the English language has degenerated and what they've done to popular music after being raised on Dr. Seuss--- rap!!! What about the heinous copycat crimes based on Microsoft Flight Simulator ??? And look what's happened to society after years of watching Bugs Bunny shamelessly wear a dress and kiss Elmer Fudd in public ! ! ! ! ! We should have banned them long ago.
