do you really get offended when someone says black instead of african american? even if your not even african? i mean i get called white all the time not german american.

I call myself Black. I have African Ancestors, but I have ancestors from other places too and it would be too darn hard to be referred to as African, French, English, Cherokee, Apache American. Black American suits me just fine.

No, I don't get offended when someone says Black instead of African American. I do get offended when people act as if I cannot consider myself both African American and Black, because people cannot tell me who I connect or identify with. DNA and experiences I have speak best on that. Being born an American, being considered Black, doesn't mean I'm not even African. I truly believe some of my blood is that same blood of Africans who were members of the same tribes as my bloodline would show, and to me, that alone allows me to justifiably call/consider myself African. I know I'm American, having been born here. Putting African and American together as "African American" allows me to embrace both. Why should anyone American care how I identify myself? I know some African natives and they have NO problem with me saying I'm an African American.

I prefer to be called an African American, but I won't be offended, if i'm called black. Iv'e never understood why we are called black, in the first place. We are not the color of tar.
