I think it was more of the two ideologies colliding, or conveniently brought to a collision by politicians. It was purely based on diplomacy, and the two big kids had different agendas. Your average Russian (even an educated one) knew nothing about American culture. But they were told that they are the enemies because they exploit the workers. So yes, I believe it was opposing the forms of government, and figuring out which one has more power. USSR was the strongest in the communist world, US was the strongest of the capitalism at the time. Which one would surrender and submit to the power? Smiles. I'm glad that one is over.

P.S. Interesting avatar :-p

G'day Don't Make Fun of My Avatar,

Thank you for your question.

I think that it was a little of both. The USA had a long legacy of democratic, republican government together with its allies in the British Commonwealth and eventually Western Europe. The USSR/Russia had a long legacy of autocratic government which was combined with Marxism after the Russian revolution. I suspect that the two nations would have had difficulty if the czars had stayed in power. There was strong disagreements between the British and Russians at the Congress of Europe in 1815 after the Napoleonic Wars. While there may have been an element of conflict between the two stongest remaining powers, culture and ideology were significant factors.

Regards

The cold war had to do with opposing forms of government. The cold war came and went. Governments come and go. Cultures usually stick around.
