I have a side by side refrigerator and it runs constantly. The food is still frozen in the freezer side but it's not quite as cold as it used to be on the fridge side. Any suggestions or experiences with a similar problem would be helpful.

this is probably a problem with the defroster or the fan on the evaporater(inside coil)when the evaporater does not defrost it causes ice build up on it,this does not allow air to flow through it.The result of this is that the freezer will stay cold for awhile but the refrigerator section will not get cold enough. there is a defrost timer sometimes located in the roof of the fridge next to the light and conrols,Sometimes it is located in the bottom front of the fridge behind the grill.Locate it,it will have a small plastic stem sticking out of it.Turn this stem (i usually use the end of my pocket knife) cloclwise until you hear the compresser turn off.
After a minute or so you should hear the defrost hear sizzling and popping as it melts the ice away.
If the fridge does not kick back on after 30 min.,turn it a few more cicks until the fridge starts back up and see if that doesn't give you an air flow.

you can also unplug it for 24 hours and it will slowly melt off.

you can get these timers at your local appl. parts store.

hope this helps.if not e-mail me and I may be able to help you further.this is a simple test and is alot easier than it sounds.

Here is a list of things that can cause this.

Condenser coils (under the refrig. unit) blocked with dust. The condenser fan not running. The freezer fan not running. A door not closing properly. A bad defrost timer or adaptive defrost control. A bad defrost thermostat. Bad defrost heater/s.

With a defrost problem you will find frost on the rear wall of the freezer at the bottom to about half way up the wall.

If you need further assistance just click on my name and contact me with the make and model number and what you have found and I will be glade to help you.

that's maximum probable the fan motor that blows air from the freezer component to the frig. component. The bearings are approximately long previous. regardless of if that's a ninety 5 form, it has outlived its life span. common life is now 8 to 10 years. while you're available, you could replace the fan motor for around $40 in factors. service call would be $200. As for a sparkling frig, you may get a suitable freezer form with icemaker interior the $500 selection. component via component interior the $900 selection in case you save properly. initiate at Lowe's or H H Gregg.

i'm surprised that the so-called tech repair man for years didn't mention this; the problem is you are not cycling right.this happens to a lot of them due to a bad defroster timer or even dirt or crud build up on the outside button.remove the front floor grill and you should see a small knob of sorts, spray this down with some wd 40 and turn it clockwise slowly, you'll hear it kick on and off as you rotate it.most of the time this will fix the problem.however i suggest going to your local library and getting a appliance repair book to help you.really not that hard, and full of trouble shooting .good luck

Try cleaning out the condenser in the back with a vaccum cleaner to increase air flow accross the tubing.
