There are :The goods (8),The minotaur (1), The heroes (2) so there are 8+2+1=11 characters.
1) Zeus , Athena , Poseidon , Apollo , Hera .....

There are like a bizzillion, because only common ones are in mainstream literature. There are gods and goddess (Zeus and Hera et al.), witches (Circe, Medea, Hecate), titans, centaurs and freaky other things (Polyphemus, Nessos).

Not to mention all the legendary people and rulers (Pelops, Oedipus, Antigone, Theseus, Polydorus, Orestes and Electra, etc.!)

I suggest checking out the Oxford Classical Dictionary. (I got it for x-mas whoo!) It has very good sources.

Also watch out for the names if you are looking for JUST Greek myth. For example "Hecules" is Roman, in Greek it's "Heracles". And Aeneas and the Aeneid is Roman as well, so beware.

Another note is that we have a "common" list of gods and goddesses, and we neglect others like Iris, Hebe, Helios, Selene...and the list continues.
