It means that it can connect to a wireless access point nearby to give you Internet access.
In most cases the access point is a router you buy for yourself and connect it to a local broadband provider to give you wireless Internet access around your home.
It is also used in Internet cafes, colleges & universities, hot spots and the such.

The ability to communicate with wireless networks. I bought a wireless card for my laptop because most of the hotels now have only wireless high speed. Got DSL at home about a year ago and bought a wireless router for the house so I can use the internet without having to plug in and also, my desktop is not anywhere near a phone jack or anything where I could hardwire it without a lot of extra trouble.

It means there is a wireless card in your computer. So if you want to connect to the internet get an ISP with cable modem or DSL and a router and you are set. Can roam around the house without being tied to the modem physically. It is nice. But the wireless is a bit of a misnomer because you have to be wired to the modem and router even if your laptop can roam around.
