The first "real" roller coaster, ( one built with wheels on a dry track), was constructed on orders of Catherine the Great. The roller coaster was built in the Gardens of Oreinbaum in St. Petersburg in an amusement center called Katalnaya Gorka in the year 1784. Soon after the first coaster was built, the Napoleonic Wars began. Many French soldiers grew fond of the ice slides while in Russia and brought the idea of the roller coaster back with them to France. . .

i did a little research for you.
Many had ideas for a roller coaster but most attempts failed miserably...but the first guy to actually get a patented was LaMarcus Adna Thompson on January 20, 1885.

i think it was the russian they put sleighs on a hill of ice and charged people to go down the hill. from there it gradually moved west across europe and then came to the united states.

rollercoasters were first started in russia during the winter.they started as ice slides/blocks and they rode down on whatever they could find.then is started to get bigger and better as people wanted to go higher and faster for more exciment.
