THIS DOES NOT MEAN YOU MAY HAVE AN STD! I saw that in a previous answer to your posting.

When you have your yearly exam (which I'm assuming is what this was part of) they do a pap smear, test for common STDs and other non-transmittable infections, and they should be offering you the option of a blood test for syphilis and HIV as well.

The Pap Smear part is where they are scraping your cervix to collect cells/tissue samples. They examine this. They are looking for clues that you have cancer, HPV, or other problems.

An abnormal pap is not necessarily something to panic over. I have had that once. It just means your cells are looking not quite normal. This happens to a lot of women at one point or another, as we aren't all the same and the human body doesn't follow rules all the time! If all your doctor says is "it was abnormal", that pretty much means they aren't worried and they may/may not have you come for a follow up in a couple months.

Also...if you have an abnormal and you come back with HPV; know that HPV puts you at a higher risk of developing cancer down there, but it does NOT mean you will have cancer, and most of the time HPV will clear up all on it's own.

I hope this helps. =)

I'm not a doctor but I can tell you the experience I've had.

Sometimes the pap test comes out abnormal and all they need to do is repeat it. Once my doctor didn't get enough cells when he did my pap and I had to go back and he redid it.

I had an abnormal pap test 18 years ago, the cells in my cervix were abnormal and the possibility existed that they could become cancerous. There are different "grades" of abnormal, some are mild, mine was more serious.

I went into the hospital and the doctor did a procedure where he went into my cervix and "froze" the abnormal cells. He then removed a cone sized piece of my cervix.

There was never any pain or discomfort (I was alseep during the procedure) and I actually couldn't tell I'd had anything done. The good news is that there is something like a 99.? percent success rate with it. The important thing to remember is early treatment. They have a very good success with this type of problem.

After the procedure I had to have a pap test done every three months for awhile. I've never had any problems since and I go once a year now for my pap test.

I hope this information helps answer your question. If not, maybe you should talk to your doctor and have them explain it to you.

Lots of luck and hope you get the answers you're looking for.

A pap smear test is a screening test. It's not a dfinitive test. That means that if you have had an abnormal result that means that you need to go in for further exams. It doesn't necessarily mean there is a problem, but that it needs further testing to be more definitive.
Hope it turns out clean and clear.

With your age and sexual historical past the obviously purpose for an irregular pap smear experiment effect is HPV. HPV is honestly a organization of traces of a plague, a few which motive genital warts, a few motive cervical melanoma. If you've HPV you may also want a colposcopy, this means that they put off a small quantity of your cervical cells (after numbing you) to experiment for precancerous or cancerous alterations. If you've HPV however no melanoma or precancerous cells, that is possibly, it simply method you're going to need to be intently monitored to make certain you do not have cervical melanoma. At age 15 you're at a well age to get vaccinated in opposition to HPV with Gardasil or Cevarix. I'm including a hyperlink to a internet site with well understanding approximately the vaccine.

You'll likely have to go back (right away, then every six months) for another pap smear.

It could be Human Papiloma Virus, or cancer, or it could be nothing at all!!

I've had abnormal smears two times, and both times I got so worried - - then it turned out to be nothing!!

~Best of luck~
