The fact that you are asking this question rather than sitting at home feeling sorry for yourself and feeling like you will never get over the pain of heartache means that you have already started to take positive steps to get your life back on track. Heartache can be anything from someone you like not asking you out to having a spouse die (sometimes we are mad enough that this doesn't sound like a bad idea!).

I loved someone for several years in a long distance relationship. I really believed that we were very compatible in every way, and we planned to marry and be together in the same city after solving some problems (kids, grandchildren, elderly parents ill, etc.). I really thought - didn't have a doubt in the world - that he was the one for me, and that this would work. (I knew him for 12 years, knew each other's families, etc.) After raising 3 children to adulthood, I was looking forward to having more time for my own life, and we had gotten to the point where we had planned to be together. I began to notice a change, didn't seem quite so eager to talk to me, or quite so happy to hear from me. He was busy more often than he had ever been before - or too busy to spend time talking with me. This man is a pillar of the community so I believed him, and believed in him. He made some excuse about needing some time to straighten things out and he would get back to me (sort of like in a few weeks). I insisted he tell me what was wrong - I was worried his health was in jeopardy - finances were a problem - something was wrong and he wasn't telling me. You know how when you love someone and communicate for a long time you can just tell in their voice if something is wrong. That's how he sounded. I began to suspect that he was deceiving me somehow. I checked up with a mutual acquaintance and found that this man had already married someone else a few months before that. Apparently it was too difficult to tell me so he very cowardly chose not to. I feel like he tried to make me mad because of his neglect so that I would walk away from our relationship and he (never liking confrontation) would not have to tell me what he had done. like I said - he married someone else, didn't tell them that for years he had had this relationship with me, and didn't tell me he married her, yet kept talking to me as if everything was fine. (Cake and eat it too!). I feel sorry for the woman he married - she is living in the dark - I at least know what a jerk he is.

The reason for this long story is that I thought my heart would really break. I invested a lot and a lot of time in this relationship and had really believed in it, and in him. It is so disappointing when we are rejected. It is maddening when someone not only rejects us for some reason but refuses to be honest with us and treats us with less than respect. I was insulted as well as hurt. This was a few months ago after years of loving this man. Guess what? I got busy. I was in the beginning stages of starting a new business and kept myself busy during this time. I can tell you that the busier you stay the less time you will have for worry and feeling sorry for yourself. Help someone else, or work harder, do a better job. Your career may advance, you will improve your life, etc. Then, maybe like me, you will suddenly find that you don't hurt so much anymore. Then the day will come when your heartache is not only not the first thing you think of each day, but it will not even be on the list. I hope this is soon for you. Keep your chin up.

How To Deal With Heartache

Not easily.... motion and energy can help deal with heartache. Do not stay stationary, it will only feed you more negative vibes. Get a moving... it starts with walking, then interacting with your surroundings, then interacting with people-

Don't use your heart to think or to feel anytime soon. Let it heal and that can only happen through time. You'll know when the time is right to use it again.

Nights can be the toughest but thank god for ambien... LOL, a good book where you can lose yourself can help too.

Just don't stop smiling. Good luck and god bless.

honey, it's the hardest thing i have ever been through and I hope and pray I'll never go through it again . I got through it by writing my feeling down.Every time I would feel my emotions coming on strong I would talk in my tape recorder and tell my husband just what I thought of him and the other woman .By me doing that it would calm me down. Some times I had to take it a minute at a time because my heart was so broken I knew I couldn't take it for an hour.I got through it with the help of my tape recorder my diary and books on the subject.I went from one second at a time to one minute then an hour to a day.It was a long hard road but I got through it and so can you it won't be easy but if I can do it anyone can. It's been 8 years now and I still think about what happened but with much less pain.

I cope with it because I'm not giving up. I am in love and I'm not getting out of love. If I have to be in it alone, than I will be. But I love someone and always will. It's not going away. The time is coming again when all started to happen. Memories are evolving and it will bring everything to a head again.........I'm worth every bit of the hurt and so is he. Never, ever give up for true love....

know that it happens to us all, and that nothing will take it away until it has been worked through. when our heart is broken we need to be especially good to ourselves,we need to stop blaming ourselves for whatever it was that caused us to have the broken heart. but the pain does leave us eventually, a smarter and more capable person than before. it is not the broken heart that matters so much as how we respond to the broken heart. we need a good support system during times of trouble, friends, family, a good church. we need to talk about our hurt, and realiaze we did not deserve the hurt we received, and sometimes we get hurt because of other peoples choices in life, and that we really couldn't have done anything to stop it. we just need to press on, and do the same things in life as we always did when we didn't have the broken heart. also the most important thing is to talk to god, he really does listen to us. he does understand us.

Nothing is worse than someone breaking your heart. To need somebody so badly and then to have to let them go is hard.
But,fortunately, heartbreak doesn't last forever.
The first thing is to let go completely. If it was not meant to be, then just let them go, and trust that someone better is going to come along.
It's okay to feel bad. Take some time to feel bad.
There is value to every feeling, as every feeling teaches us something new about ourselves.
Just as we savour being happy, we can savour being sad, knowing that the feeling won't stay with us forever.
Talk to somebody about it.
Keep your eyes forward
The future is rushing towards us faster than we can comprehend, and if we keep our heads turned backwards, looking at the past, we will miss seeing everything that the future is bringing to us.
And keep smiling always. :)

By going to my bed room, getting a hairbrush, turning on my stereo and sing along as loud as possible with the song "I will survive" while standing on my bed.

Works every time.
