I work full time in a factory but keep books for my brother's restaurant/bar. I have a terrible time with my desktop computer and need just a small, basic computer that is Windows XP compatible without all the bells and whistles. All I really need is the operating system, Microsoft Office Professional, and Quickbooks Professional. I can use the internet and update their website from my desktop or my oldest son's desktop, but I need a computer that I can carry with me when my brother needs immediate information.

You might look at the Samsung Q1 it is a fully functioning computer with a full operating sytem (windows XP tablet edition which is windows xp pro w/ tablet funtionality) integrated wireless and 40 GB Hard drive. This gem is about the size of a hard cover book 9" wid x 5.5" high and 1" Deepwith a 9" Color LCD TFT display.and wieghs just 1.5 lbs. For periphiral hook up like keyboards dvd or cd drives it has USB 2.0 Ports. I my selph have not had the cah for one of these (aout $950-$999) but would love to get my hands on one. In any case this seems to be exactly what you were looking for.

here is the link to the Samsung product site for the Q1

Looks like you need a HP iPaq: http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/prodserv/handheld.html There are several models to choose from. I suggest that you do a little research on the net & go to local stores to find one that you like.

You're better off with a PDA than a laptop. It suits your situation.

Edit: Someone posted above that you can't use MS Office apps on a PDA. In fact, you can. There are mobile versions of MS Office apps. You can even choose a different (but Office-compatible) application altogether. That person that posted computer jargon thrash haven't owned 1 PDA in his entire life.

P.S. I do own a brand new, very powerful notebook computer, much more powerful than the specs posted above. But I still use my PDA very much. In fact, that's what I bring everyday to my office (instead of a laptop) because it's very, very handy. My PDA can handle MS Office documents like word documents & excel spreadsheets.

You can either get a laptop, a internet tablet such as the nokia 770 (which doesn't run windows), or get a mini-itx system. A google search will tell you about them:

http://www.google.com/search?q=mini+itx

Due to their small size, they usually are rather slow...1ghz or less. Which is enough for surfing, but nowhere near good for modern gaming.
