You need to create a well thought out and documented business plan. You can get models for this in a number of places, and you can enter 'business plan' into your search engine. Anyway, the issue is always about the money. Where are you going to get it to start the business, where are your customers going to come from, what do you do to not only keep customers but get new ones. There are about 100 things you have not even thought about yet that require knowledge and money. WHat kind of insurance do I get? WHat happens if I get in an accident or sick? What if someone sues me? What if equipment breaks down? What if an employee quits/ steals/ hurts a customer/ is lazy/doesn't come to work/ gets hurt at work . . . . You also have to realize that your own business will require YOUR time, all the time, everyday of the week, for perhaps two years minimum. I found law school was easier to get through than trying to run a retail business, mainly because of the time commitment. You have to love what you do and not just the money you think you will earn from it. If you don't love the business, it will fail - period. How will it affect your family, friends, free time, holidays, etc? I have heard of people who get loans from the Small Business Administration. My experience with them is that they are a really lousy government bureaucracy - they have the talk but are no where close to walking the walk. You can also learn tons by talking to everyday people you do business with about 'starting a business'. Do not discount anyone's advice.

owning a business is a great idea if you are organized, persistent and bored with the average life. :)

remember that 9 in 10 businesses fail. so don't look at the laundromat as the way to GET RICH, but as a learning experience that you can make a living off of.

search your county or city's website to see what the process is for starting a business and running it legally.

in most major cities you can get free business advice from retired business people. check at a nearby college or at your city offices.

best of luck!
