I love reading, but I don't know what books to buy. I like fantasy based stories, royalty, adventure. I hate horror stories and anything to do with killing others or self. I also want to increase my vocabulary too.

Suggestions?

That's for adults not teens or kids

First if you have not done so read the Harry Potter series. It is not just for kids. And the books get much harder after the third one that I can't see how kids can read them. You don't get much better plotting than this and very creative. It is written on many levels. The kids will see some things and adults others, and if you look very, very close you will find there are hidden symbols there that tell a hidden story too. I don't normally read fiction, but I tell you if you don't read this series you will really be missing something.

As to other books. Look for the classics. Here is a link that I just found that has the 100 top classic books:

This should keep you busy and out of trouble for awhile. ;-)

Try:
1. The catcher in the Rye - JD Salinger
2. The hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy - Douglas Adams
3. To Kill a Mockingbird - Harper Lee
4. The God of small things - Arundhati Roy

These are some books that I like

You might try Jane Lindskold's "Wolf" series, it is really a good read. Or anything by Dennis McKiernan, although I like his duology INTO THE FORGE and INTO THE FIRE a lot. Has everything you are looking for in a book or books. Both authors write great fantasy. Enjoy!

Hi there. I'm the author of a new medieval fantasy series that you might like. The title of the first episode is THE BLACKGLOOM BOUNTY. It's 445 pages of action, adventure, magic, mystery and mayhem. If you are a fan of Conan, LOTR or Harry Potter books, this is one you'll enjoy. A Hollywood producer said it was, "Like Braveheart meets Lord of the Rings." (See other comments & reviews below.)

Good luck, whatever you decide to read!

Jon F. Baxley (Author, Editor, Ghostwriter and Proofreader)

THE SCYTHIAN STONE (eBook only)
THE BLACKGLOOM BOUNTY (eBook and hard cover)
THE REGENTS OF RHUM (coming fall '07)

Major Media Reviews:

Publishers Weekly

STARRED Review. A fast pace, sly humor, amusing dialogue and a richly researched background lift Baxley's fantasy, the first of a new series set in medieval Britain. When Merlin's long-ago apprentice Kruzurk Makshare (aka the Boozer) receives a dreamlike visitation from the legendary mage, he learns he must destroy another former apprentice, the villainous Seed of Cerberus. To do so will require a visit to the demon-guarded Blackgloom Keep. Enter young Daynin McKinnon, who discovers a curious rune-covered headstone, which may be the fabled Blackgloom Bounty, and brings it to Kruz's attention. Kruz believes it will provide entry into the fortress, while Daynin hopes the sale of the stone will restore his family's fortunes. The colorful cast of good guys and ne'er-do-wells includes the Pictish ghost of Brude McAlpin liberated from his tomb, assorted pursuing Caledonians and a bemused Prior Bede, whose monastery serves as a hiding place for the Blackgloom Bounty. Suitable for fantasy enthusiasts of all ages.
