If you want to copy DVD movies, then you can just Google search 'DVD ripper' or 'dvd burner software' to find the programs you can buy.
There is one free one called DVD Decrypter, but I've never used it. It might not be user-friendly.

If you want to burn music, then you can use Media Player. If you want to store data on CDs/DVD, then XP can do that without any other software. Most people use 3rd party burner software because they have more features.

Below are 3 links. One is for a burning tutorial, the second link is for a CD/DVD burner program, and the last link is for a DVD duplicator program. There are many others out on the Internet.

On the side of the laptop, usually on the right, there should be a DVD drawer that you can take out by pressing the button on the side. If you click on Start - All Programs. You should be able to find your DVD burning software, either Nero (in the Ahead folder) or Easy CD Creator. From there, you should be able to figure it by fooling around with the settings.

If it came with a DVD burner, then it has some pre-installed software to write em... Probably Nero...
Note that most wont copy a DVD movie...

If you want to copy your dvd movies to dvd media, get Acala DVD Copy here: http://www.burner-software.com/Acala-DVD-Copy-movies.html
It supports most dvd burner drives, you just need to insert the dvd, run the program, and click copy.
