In my medical world many of us are prescribed Trazadone. It started out as an antidepressant but was discovered to be better as a sleeping aid that is not addictive. Needs Dr. 'script....works great for me...Good Luck & pay no attention to those who discourage the use of medication....if you need comfort get it anywhere you can (with intellegence & a doctor's care) Sleep tight! Don't let the bedbugs bite!

All sleeping pills are harmful. You should try to get to the root cause of your problem and consider a few things:

(a) how many hours of sleep are you having per night - if you're having too many, perhaps you should wake up earlier, or go to bed later

(b) do you eat big meals at night - heavy evening meals can play havoc on our bodies as we try to sleep. Where possible you should try to have your 'heaviest' meals during the day and light soothing meals at night such as soups etc

(c) are you drinking enough water? your body can have a disruptive night sleep if it is de-hydrated. So many people wake in the middle of the night to go and have a drink of water. You should be having enough water during the day so your body can have a 6 to 8 hour sleep without the need to wake and replenish water supplies

Unfortunately there are no quick fixes. You will need to go through a trial and error process rather than find a quick fix solution in some magical pill. Drinking camomile tea at night is great to help you relax and encourage a good night's sleep. You could also try having a bath at night which is very relaxing - especially if you pop a couple of drops of lavendar oil into a lukewarm bath. You could also try to listen to some relaxing music or try some meditation at night, or go to bed an hour or half an hour earlier than you would normally and read an uplifting, positive book before bed.

Good luck - I understand that the consistent lack of a really good night's sleep can become a real issue over time. Try some different things and avoid worrying about things in the evening.

Good luck (and hopefully, sweet dreams!!)

You are much better off using natural suppliments than any drugs. Also, figure out what is waking you up, do you have problems on your mind? Are you eating right before bed? Are you not eating healthy and this is affecting your sleep. Also, have you taken any antibiotics in the last year? Studies found that those can mess up your intestines by killing good bacteria and that also interrupts sleep. If so, I suggest you get eating some good organic, plain yogurt for a while. Stay away from sugar. See if that helps.

Anything in pill form that is taken too often is harmfull. A very good alternative is SleepyTime Tea by Celestial Seasonings. No drugs or additives. It's all natural. Place a mug full near your bed and when you wake during the night have a few sips. It works even when it's cold.

try Melatonin 1 or 2 mg. before Bed. Take with it 50 mg. vitamin B-6 (pyridoxine) Also buy L-tryptophane 500 mg. before bed. Try these - they should work. but avoid Rx from doctors as poison to your body.
