In 63 the young president John F. Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas Tx Nov. 22 . His wife the beautiful and chic Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy was with him along with the governor John Connolly and his wife. Kennedy was shot by Lee Harvey Oswald, who was subsequently shot on Sunday the 24th by Jack Ruby, starting the biggest conspiracy theory that's ever been.
1964- The Beatles appeared on the Ed Sullivan show for the first time and pandemonium broke loose in North America just like it did in GB and Europe the year before. Beatles made two other appearances in the succeeding week. For that first appearance no youth crime happened during the 8-9 hour that Sullivan was on.
Mid sixties there was a fire in one of the Gemini space capsules and three astronauts died.
The viet nam war esculated and became the first TV war, students protested in the streets, burned draft cards and ran to Canada and Sweden to avoid the draft.
In 1968 Martin Luther King was assassinated in Memphis Tn in april. Lydon Baines Johnson , president of the US said he would not run for election, Robert F. Kennedy, attorney General and brother of John Kennedy announced he would run in the primaries. He was assasinated by Sirhan Sirhan June sixth 1968. Nixon in 74 would resign the presidency in disgarace due to the Watergate debacle which happened in 72 when ' the plumbers' were caught in the Democratic National Committee offices in the Watergate.
Folk rock and pop became popular as did what was then termed psychedelic music started by the Beatles ground breaking Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club band lp.
71 four students shot dead by the National Guard at Kent State protesting the Viet Nam war.
Pierre Trudeau became PM of Canada and married 21 year old Margaret Sinclair who bore him two sons born on Christmas day in the 70s and Justin and Alexandre , Michel was born in the mid 70s and died in the early 90s climbing a mountain.
Nixon went to China in 72 opening relations with them for the first time.
Popular musical acts of the early 70s James Taylor, John Denver, Carole King , Simon and Garfunkle , who broke up in the early 70s , Jesus rock became popular for the first time. Jesus Christ Superstar debuted after the success of Hair in the late sixties on broadway and the London stage.
Something called Skylab was launched by Nasa. Apollo 13 almost didn't make it back. Neil Armstrong was the first man to walk on the moon in July 69 saying one giant leap for mankind and a small step for man.
