i have switched before and i have had to redownload some of my old songs so i'd suggest making back up files or burning them to CD

No it will not. All of your downloaded songs should be in a folder that you can check on. Once you uninstall bearshare they will remain.
Although, I'm not sure whether they will appear in the limewire folder because they were downloaded using bearshare.
